The Raid on Mount Oe: Spirited Away酒呑童子討伐伝・神隠し
Long ago, a spate of strange disappearances caused great fear among Kyoto's citizenry, for it was believed that the missing persons had been spirited away, a phenomenon known as "kami-kakushi."
When divination revealed the culprit to be Shuten Doji and his Oni, the Imperial Court dispatched its most formidable warriors to Mount Oe to slay the offenders.
"I have performed the rites of divination and the culprit has been revealed to me. The spate of disappearances that have shaken our capital are the work of that dreaded monster who haunts the shadowy slopes of Mount Oe."
"Mount Oe, you say? Why, that can only mean...!"
"Indeed. Shuten Doji has struck again."
At the mage's mention of the great Oni's name, the courtiers muttered nervously, and the stately figure behind the bamboo blind shifted uneasily in his seat.
"You heard the mage's words, Lord Yorimitsu, and you know what must be done. Assemble the Four Heavenly Kings and set forth without delay."
「昨今、京を騒がしている神隠しは、 大江山に住む鬼の仕業でございます」 「おお…。大江山というとあの…」 「はい、酒呑童子でございます」 陰陽師の出した鬼の名に、ざわめきがおきる。 御簾の奥の人影が動いた。 「聞いてのとおりだ。頼光。四天王の同行を許す。 すぐに発て」 「御意」 下座の眼光鋭い武者が平伏して答えた。
As court mage, I have performed the divination required of me. But as to whether Yorimitsu and his fearless band of retainers will prevail against Shuten Doji, that is beyond my powers of prediction, alas.
Lord Yorimitsu approaches! And look! He is accompanied by none other than the Four Heavenly Kings! Let us pray that their expedition to Mount Oe is a success, and that they return with Shuten Doji's head!
Lord Yorimitsu, I beseech you! Bring back my daughter and strike down the monster who took her from me! I cannot live without her, and every moment she is gone is agony!
