The Raid on Mount Oe: The Warriors' Plan酒呑童子討伐伝・武士の計略
Thus did Yorimitsu's band of warriors finally come face to face with the Oni they had been ordered to slay, the wicked Shuten Doji.
The warriors partook of his hospitality, merrily feasting, imbibing, and dancing, all in an effort to lower their enemy's defenses.
Sensing that the moment was right, Yorimitsu offered Shuten Doji the divine sake the gods had gifted him. However, the wary demon at first refused to partake.
After Yorimitsu drank of it, Shuten Doji finally drank the heady draft, and at once fell into a drunken stupor.
"Most venerable Shuten Doji, to thank you for your generous hospitality, allow us to offer you some of our sake. It is a rare specimen that we procured from a man of high rank. Please, drink of it!"
"Ha ha, not so fast! I would rather you drink of it first. It might be poison, after all."
"If you have no desire to partake of this delicious sake, I will be more than glad to finish the entire jar myself."
So saying, Yorimitsu threw back his head and began to drink the magic sake without let or hindrance.
"Hm... It is clearly not poison. And besides, it certainly smells as delicious as you said. Very well. Hand over the sake, if you value your life!"
"But of course, good sir. Now please, drink up, drink up!"
(What was it they told us? That to mortal men this sake was as an elixir? Well, I must hope they spoke true, for if I am to make Shuten Doji drink, then I must allay his suspicions.
Well, here goes! ...Why, this is delicious! An invigorating drop indeed! I can feel it coursing through my veins!)
Ho ho, this sake is delicious indeed! A veritable treat!
...Hic! But I must admit it is making me a little tipsy. It is rare indeed for a sake to go to the head of the mighty Shuten Doji...
What's this!? A sake so fine that it can overpower even our master? Here, let me have a swig! ...Kaah! I've never tasted anything better!
...Hic! I would drink more, but I seem to be...getting... very...sleepy! Hic!
