In an effort to rouse the "gauntlet lady" Shizuka Gozen from her renewed slumber, Musashi sets out to close several Rifts that have opened around Kyoto.

Upon closing all the Rifts in the city, Musashi has the reawakened Shizuka relate her tragic tale. He learns that the man he previously met, before Hell's Maw, is in fact behind the blight ravaging Kyoto—the famed Onimusha, Yoshitsune.
